Chatham, NY12037
(518) 392-9293

Spencerhill is looking for commercial, general-interest fiction; romance including historical romance, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, erotic fiction and category romance; literary fiction; thrillers and mysteries. Jennifer Schober is looking also for exciting YA projects and selected non-fiction projects. Spencerhill does not represent Children’s work.

"Our goal is to maximize the careers of our authors, to place them with the right editor and publisher and to see their readership expand. We look forward to submissions from talented writers at any stage of their career – from the well-known, successfully published and established author to the exciting new voice of a debut writer, and any stage in-between."

Agents:

Karen Solem: In 1980 Karen joined Simon & Schuster as editor-in-chief of Silhouette books, which was then publishing only four books a month. She took Silhouette to a division that released more than 24 titles a month and remained as editor-in-chief of the imprint after it was acquired by the Harlequin empire. In 1990, to broaden her publishing background she moved to Harper Paperbacks, an imprint of Harper Collins, as Editorial Director and Associate Publisher, and built a woman’s fiction program for them. Switching to the agenting side of the business, she joined the powerhouse literary agency Writers’ House, and then started her own agency, Spencerhill Associates.

Karen’s list of clients is a Who’s Who of leading authors of romance novels and other women’s commercial fiction, including Eve Silver who will be the guest speaker at the "How to Build Your Story" workshop on March 6 in Mississauga. (See here.)

Jennifer Schober began her career as a literary agent with Spencerhill Associates in 2006, straight out of school. In the past three years, Jennifer has sold 100 books, with recent sales to Mills & Boon, Harlequin, Kensington, Dorchester, Sourcebooks, HarperCollins and Ballantine. She says she’s looking for books with an emotional hook, fantastic storytelling and dynamic characters.

Karen says she's accepting queries from unpublished authors, but seriously, if you're unproven, I think your best bet of getting representation at this agency is to query Jennifer.

Submissions: Query by email.  Pitch us your project and tell us about yourself: Do you have prior publishing credits? Attach the first three chapters and synopsis preferably in .doc, rtf or txt format. Send all queries to: submission@spencerhillassociates.com
