Love Letters

Sheila and Ted at launch of Dottie Flowers
Hi Brian:
Thought you might like to see a photo of the launch of Dottie Flowers and the Skinner Gang. We had 130 people come through and sold over 100 books.

Chapters was very impressed with the high numbers. The manager said he'd never seen so many people attend a Chapters launch, unless the author was famous. I said, "Didn't you know I'm famous?" Joking apart, we had a wonderful time but walked around like zombies for the next few days.

Hi,
I am a beginner writer who is looking for a writers' group in Ancaster or Hamilton. It would be great to find a group to provide encouragement and information. If you can help, please email me at jen.jormakka@sympatico.ca
Thanks,
Jennifer

What to do while the kids are away at camp
Hi, Brian –
I hope you are well and having a great summer that is undoubtedly enlivened by the existence of a perfect daughter and a dramatic son! I miss classes with you and the gang, and since this has been the most amazing week of my writing career I wanted to share my news, along with my thanks for your part in my literary evolution.

For starters I have another essay in today’s Globe and Mail on single moms and summer camp. (Read it here.)

But on top of that I’ve just received word that I’ve been selected as one of 12 semi-finalists for the John Kenneth Galbraith Literary Award for my short story, “Charlie’s Stick.” (How lucky is that?!)

And finally, although it seemed as if it would never happen, I’ve just signed a publishing contract with Manor House Publishing for the publication of my novel – Shades of Teale. It will be coming to market late this fall.

Thanks for all your guidance, wisdom, critical assessments and dry humour, Brian – you provide an amazing fount of knowledge in this world and I think you and the Quick Brown Fox are absolutely wonderful.

All the best for a great fall!
Susan Crossman
