Contests and calls for flash fiction, short fiction and Halloween fiction; short poetry, long poetry, and body poetry

Dear Brian,
 I am writing to you from Ireland, where we have just launched our first official edition of Brilliant Flash Fiction, seeking submissions of stories 1,000 words or less.
 We also have a {free} writing competition called "Finish the Story." Deadline September 15, 2014. Details here.

Online magazine The Manila Envelope (US) is looking poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual artwork to for their Fall Issue (end of September). Also accepting submissions on a rolling basis.

Warning, Poems may be longer than they appear: an anthology of Longish Poems is looking for poems between 3 to 6 pages or 100 to 200 lines on any theme or subject. Submit 1 longish poem or a series of strongly linked poems (not linked merely by theme) with a brief bio.

Parts of the Whole: Poetry of the Body is looking for poems about the body. Submit up to 4 poems in any style to the editors (M. E. Silverman and Jillian Phillips) at: potwanthology@gmail.com
Length: 80 lines max. (or approximately 2 pages). Include a brief bio (150 words max.) and attach poems in Word or RTF. Include a brief explanation of how the work fits the theme. Will consider previously published poems if acknowledged in cover letter and rights are available. Deadline: September 15, 2014.

 

Second Annual Rising Spirits Writing Contest is now open!

The Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL) Writers’ Circle is pleased to announce that the 2014 Rising Spirits Writing Contest is now open. With winning prize packages valued at $100 and the opportunity to be published in the Rising Spirits Anthology, the NOTL Writers’ Circle hopes to inspire writers to participate in this competition exclusively for residents of the Niagara Region.
The theme is Halloween! Winners will be acknowledged at the Rising Spirits Celebration which will be held on Friday, October 31st at The Cellar, The Old Winery`s spectacular new event space.
Contestants can submit work in the following categories - Poetry, Horror, Mystery, Fantasy, Local History (up to 2500 words).
The NOTL Writers ‘Circle is also very excited to announce the addition of the Youth Category for young people between 14 and 18 years of age.
