Freeze frame pays for flash fiction, Dark Matter wants dark stories, UK journal wants prose & poetry, and The Mac wants high-stakes fiction

freeze frame fiction publishes quarterly online and in ebooks, semi-annually in themed issues, and annually in print. Seeks flash fiction: 1,000 words or less, any genre, no content restrictions. New and established writers. Pays $10 per accepted piece.

This Dark Matter (US) accepts submissions of short stories, flash fiction, and poetry. Publishes work in all genres for adults or young adults “as long as there is an inherent darkness at the heart of it.” Weird is good, and so is horrifying and heart-pounding and creepy.

Kingston University Creative Writing MA blog Words, Pauses, Noises (UK) is looking for submissions of short fiction (up to 1,500 words), poetry (up to three poems), flash fiction, non-fiction, interviews with prominent literary figures, book reviews, and original artwork.

Online poetry magazine The Mackinac seeks original work “where the stakes are always high.” Submit up to 5 poems. Prefers work that “bridges the strait between nostalgia and the immediate, the wilds seen and unseen.”
